Aloha-
More from Kaimuki Dry Goods...................
This first fabric my daughter really liked. We decided to get it for her quilt.
We will use my "new favorite" quilt pattern- like the one in the Nov. 18 posting- (I have recently made another of those and will post the pictures another time.) I have to come up with a name for the pattern--- I'm thinking "Crazy Squares"

It's such a fun and fast quilt to make, and it uses large print fabric. There are so many beautiful fabrics out there and these Hawaiian designs will really work well for this quilt...........................

For the next fabric........................................ I have a new pattern design in mind. I had seen one similar in a quilt book. It uses just 2 pieces of fabric. In the book it has one large print and the other tiny patterned design.
Half of the quilt is one large piece of fabric and the other half of the quilt is the other piece of fabric. Then reversed on the back............................... another fun and fast design..................
Before we left I had seen these fabrics on their web site...........................

I thought I could change the look by using these fabrics with different color backgrounds.......................
Well when we got in the store and I was so in love with everything it was hard to decide what to do. Finally I came to my senses and went with my original idea. Now that we are home I'm anxious to get started. ----
Another Hawaiian Quilt Shop in the next posting!!!!!
Mahalo- ( Thank You)

Aloha---

Over the next few postings I would like to show you some quilt shops and fabrics I found on vacation.

Today's shop is -- Kaimuki Dry Goods--- http://www.kaimukidrygoods.com/default.asp
Wow--

The fabric selection was wonderful. They were kind enough to let me take photos to share with you.

It was all a little mind boggling. I had an idea of the fabric that I was interested in from first looking at their web site at home, but seeing all this wonderful fabric- I was being pulled this way and that.

I took pictures, then went back a few days later after I had time to think about it, to make my purchases..... However........ The above fabric, that I loved, was gone :( !!!!!!! when I went back. I should have known, there was only a yard or two on the bolt....

One of the wonderful things about their selection was that I felt much of the fabric had an Hawaiian “feel” to it, but could easily look good back here in New York. As the fabrics on the right above.
That has always been the problem I have found with many of the stores that sell fabric in Hawaii--- Most is used for Hawaiian clothing, and although it is beautiful, I feel it just doesn't seem to “go” once you bring it home. As the above left hand fabric.
And then...... maybe that is something I should work on......coming up with designs/patterns that would "work" here......hummmmmmm...something to ponder. All the fabric is just so beautiful!!!!

The fabric below I thought was wonderful. My picture doesn't do it justice. The background is a pretty chocolate color and the leaves and flowers are pale turquoises.
The fabric this store carries were a lot of the names we are familiar with--- Hoffman-Moda-TrendTex, etc.

More from Kaimuki Dry Goods in the next posting. The web site seems to be having trouble uploading images. I feel fortunate that I was able to get this many posted

I hope you have enjoyed the photos.
