Hi Everyone,
I wanted to show you my bamboo wallhanging.
This is my own design, I have one finished-  I got my inspiration from a bamboo screen I had bought in Florida a few years ago.  Every summer I hang it in our gazebo.  It has a palm tree and beach scene  painted on it.  As I would sit looking at it and noticing how it was made I thought "why can't I do this using fabric over the bamboo".

Purple Bamboo-

and a close-up-

I embellished fabric,  wrapped it around pieces of bamboo, then hung them together with a bead between each piece.

I made many practice pieces, some I painted as with this Palm Tree design which is similar to my bamboo screen for outside.

I have a new design I'm working on now.  I will keep you posted as to my progress.

I've added pictures of some quilts and wall hangings I have made through the years, on Pinterest.
http://www.pinterest.com/JudyIH/
I haven't been very good about keeping pictures of my work in a few folders so now I must go back through many years of saved CD's to find them :)
To view more info about some of the quilts you will need to go back a few pages on this blog, as I made them a while ago.  I will add information about some of the others and about newer pieces as well,  as I get myself back into the  designing and sewing mode!!!.
Please check back as I keep adding more.

I will be taking a new design class --  Abstract Art for Quiltmakers with Elizabeth Barton.  Again this is  http://academyofquilting.com             The class starts Friday.  Elizabeth's other two classes I took were wonderful and I'm quite excited about this one.
Thanks for your time in reading my blog--Judy

Here are photos from my design class Working in Series with Elizabeth Barton.
I choose a lime slice to use for my design.

A lime slice is a little  bizarre  i know, but my thought was that if your working on a series of designs and your going to stretch your creative mind to come up with multiple ideas of a subject, is the subject matter or the ability to creatively think of ideas more important.  Hence a lonely lime slice.
I think that this is a debate to have, but perhaps not for my first class in designing in series.  I should have chosen something that would have lent itself to the lessons and exercises of the class a little better.

The first design would be fabric lime parts or fabric printer paper of the lime parts,  then free motion quilting the drawn parts.

The second photo is just to show some other options for series designs.  Cut and paste these various lie wedges on a pleasing background then free motion quilting on the drawn parts.

I have more lime design options I will post soon.  I also want to share with you other wallhanging designs I have been working on.  Most recently my bamboo wallhangings  I am very excited about these.

Well I have done great haven't I???
Sorry for the delay in postings ----
Jenny and I went on a spring break.  A road trip to Florida then a cruise.  Both were great.  I hoped to post design ideas we gathered along the way, but it just didn't happen......However--- thanks to my iPhone and Siri I was able to take notes along the way, and I want to post them hopefully in the next few days.
My design class--Working in Series will be over Monday so I am finishing up loose ends there.  I want to post photos of my progress and get the class feedback.  I will also post the photos here.

Fall Table Runner Finished

I've finished the table runner.

The pattern is  -White Christmas- by Cheryl Goss at Willowberry Designs
The pattern was very easy to follow, and I can see myself making many of these in different themes.

Cheryl's pattern has beautiful holly leaves and berries in two of the corners.  I had thought of embroidering maple leaves, but then I would have had to come up with a leaf pattern, and it all seemed like more than I wanted to get into right now.

I thought  that perhaps I could put yo-yo's in the corner -- looks somewhat like little mums-- but then decided against it as it would be like me to set a glass or something down on the table and it would spill.  I had made only 2 in fall colors when I decided against it,  so I added a white to just get an idea of how it would look.

Table Runner

The project I'm starting now is a table runner.

The pattern is from the Christmas In July online event that I took.  It was designed by Chreyl Goss of Willowberry Designs .

While I'm waiting for the kit I ordered to arrive,  I decided to make one that I can use this  fall.

I had  made a quilt for my daughter out of this fabric.

I just love the shades of  orange, red, brown and blue.

The blue has little leaves on it--just right for fall.  Check back to see the finished product.  I'm hoping to have it finished soon!!!
